 Calcium chloride, which is an inorganic salt formed by the reaction of calcium carbonate and hydrochloric acid or calcium hydroxide and ammonium chloride. It is soluble in water and ethanol and appears as an off-white or white flake, granule or powder at room temperature. It is used as antifreeze, coagulant, desiccant and food preservative, with calcium chloride dihydrate being used in water treatment.
